Question

Lately, I have been extremely interested in getting a fixer-upper doll and totally customizing her. The paint would be too hard, so I wouldn't want to repaint her, but I would love to rewig a doll, and possibly even change her eyes. I think having my own customized doll would be so perfect. But before I "take the plunge," I have a few questions.

1) How do you take the original eyes out? Is it hard? Could you end up ripping the head or something awful like that while changing them?
2) What types of wigs would you recommend? What types don't you like?
3) Are there any specific stores/sites that I should/shouldn't buy from? Why?

Thanks so much! I am really looking forward to customizing my own doll !

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You either heat up the head and pop them out through the front or slit the back of the eye socket and push them out through the back.

BOTH ways are hard and yes there is a significant risk of damaging or ripping the head both ways.

I think I might know about Question 1.
What I think you can etheir do is send her to the AGH but you will have will have a risk if you send in a PM, or for trying it you will have to take off her head and start cutting really carefully on her eyes or right in her head. I'm not really sure if this is really you do but I'm sure for the other 2 Question's you will get help soon!! Good luck!!

On a scale of 1-10 for difficulty and likelihood of really messing up, rewigging is about a 2, replacing the eyes is a 10. Restringing is about a 3. So, unless you really, really, really have your heart set on replacing her eyes and have sitting in your hand a pair of replacement "sleep" eyes, you might want to find a doll that has eyes of the color you want and rewig her.

I have not seen a source on the web for AG-size sleep eyes. All that I have seen on the various doll supply sites are the fixed eyes.

I like the kemper and monique wigs. I think they both are good quality, but certain styles I would definately not recommend for play... ones that are display only, etc....

Thanks for the information so far! Well, it sounds like I am not going to replace the eyes, which is fine. There are certain hair/eye combinations that AG does not have, that I would love, such as a doll with black hair and green eyes, and a doll with really super red hair and hazel eyes (and freckles ), and I even think that maybe a doll with some "colored" (i.e. blue, pink, etc. ) hair could end up being cute . I really like the Kemper site, and their wigs, so I will keep it bookmarked in my Favorites .
